Tired of Mumbai traffic? Do you want to go on a vacation nearby? Fear not, just a few hours’ drive is an amazing getaway which will transport you into a zone of peace and calm. We are talking about Kashid, a quaint little beach paradise just a short distance away from Mumbai. Here is everything you need to know about this place.
With its beautiful beaches, silvery sand and natural beauty, Kashid is the perfect weekend spot for Mumbaikars (and Punekars!). Located 135 km from Mumbai, it’s just a few hours’ drive away! Buses from Mumbai and Pune are easily available. Kashid is also located only 30 km from Alibaug, and can be reached by ferry from the Gateway of India. Kashid was also the setting for Saif Ali Khan’s movie Race 2.
Without doubt, Kashid offers one of the best beaches on the Western Coast. With few visitors, the beach is clean and the sand is fine. You can even enjoy water sports like jet skiing, banana rides, bumper rides and parasailing.
Companies like Let’s Campout offer camping opportunities on the beach. Watching the sunset on the beach is also an amazing experience. But the best thing about Kashid is that it relaxes your mind. It will give you a feeling of peace and calm. It is the perfect place to try meditation.
Best Time to Visit
The Konkan coast is one of the most beautiful regions of India, full of lush green forests and the gently sloping Western Ghats. The monsoon is probably one of the best times to visit Kashid to enjoy the beauty of the Konkan Coast as well as the beach. However, if you don’t want to take any risks with the rain, visit during the winter.
There’s a plethora of places to see in and around Kashid. You can stop over at Alibag, the location for Anurag Kashyap’s Paanch as well as other movies. Then, 21 km from Kashid, visit the Janjira Fort at Murud-Janjira. It is a unique fort built right in the middle of sea, and can only be visited by boat. You should also see the Phansad Wildlife Sanctuary, home to a large variety of exotic species. It is half an hour’s drive away, and you can even go trekking there.
There aren’t a lot of hotels in Kashid, so it is advisable to book early. The hotels which offer all the comforts are very few, so do some basic research before booking your hotel. Alternatively, you can also find accommodation at the local houses here, where you can also enjoy delicious home-cooked food. For more information, visit: www.kashid.co.in/kashid-hotels.html.
There are a few stalls by the beach that sell egg bhujia, poha and other such snacks. Coconut water is also available here in plenty. Kashid is on the Konkan coast, so if you get a chance, do check out some authentic Konkani cuisine, which includes a lot of seafood!
